HTC explorer release date announced!

Release date and price of the HTC explorer announced

Well folks, we finally have a UK release date for explorer. It will come out on the 15th of November according to Amazon.co.uk and is available for pre-order now at £189.98 so a bit more expensive than we first thought, although still well below average for a smartphone. As we get details of other retailers who are going to be stocking it we’ll will let you know!

Now all we have to do is play a waiting game, but it’s difficult. I can’t wait to get a hold of it and have a play! In the meantime we bring you…

The top 3 Reasons to own the HTC explorer

Even though it’s a budget smartphone the explorer has an impressive number of features. Here we give you the rundown of what we think are the phone’s best features in no particular order:

1) The HTC sense UI - If there’s one thing that HTC does better than any other competitor out there it would be their user interface. The sense UI is amazingly user friendly and you can access all of your apps straight from the home screen. Since your phone comes with the friends stream, you can have your facebook, twitter etc. all set up through that one app. If you have this all set up and a friend calls you, it not only brings you who’s calling, it also brings up their last tweet or status update. How cool is that??

2) The Mobile Web - You would expect that a budget phone like the htc explorer wouldn’t have certain things that other more expensive phones do. Well they’ve not skimped when it comes to the web browser – like other smartphones, your HTC will adjust your text size on a website, making it less of an eyestrain and easier to use.

3) Price - Cost has always been a huge issue when it comes to smartphones. Does anyone else remember how much apple were charging when they brought out their pay as you go i-phone? As far as I’m concerned £179 is cheap for a smartphone, especially one as nifty as this one!

HTC explorer presents the HTC Edge – a barrel full of awesome!

Well if you thought you liked the look of the HTC explorer, I think you might about wet your pants at the thought of their newest offering – The HTC Edge! In fact, HTC look set to be the first manufacturers in the world to release a quad core mobile handset!

Right now everything is pure speculation, however we can say that from sneak photo’s we’ve seen that it looks an awful lot like the Titan and judging by HTC’s announcement earlier this month that its newest device will run ice cream sandwich (Android 4.0), we can only guess that they are talking about the edge.

Screen size wise we might have a 4.7in display and you’re looking at a device that is set to come with a Tegra 3 chip (the only device that has this right now is the upcoming transformer prime. Fingers crossed then that it will also come with sense v4, and a whole host of services from HTC both new and old.

We’ll keep an eye on it for now and as soon as any more HTC Edge rumours are posted, we’ll let you know.

UK networks for the HTC explorer

Only 2 networks carrying the HTC explorer in the UK?

Well it looks like there will be only 2 carriers for the HTC explorer on release day in the UK. So far, only Orange and O2 seem to have signed up to sell the explorer and unless three or vodafone are going to pull something out of the bag sharpish, it looks like diehards of both networks could have a tough choice on their hands.

The only alternative for customers who’s friends are all on the 3 or vodafone network might be to actually buy their phone from a third party such as Amazon.

If you just can’t wait for the HTC explorer…

Cant wait for the HTC explorer to come out?

htc wildfire

The HTC explorer's big brother - The wildfire

Then why not get yourself over to Amazon and check out the HTC wildfire? It’s not as cheap as the explorer will be when it comes out, however it does have some pretty cool features. It’s a sturdy little thing (my husband is really clumsy – he drops his all the time and it’s still going!) with lots of cool features like the “friends stream” that gathers all of your friends social media updates in the one nifty little app.

It runs on Android 2.1 (Eclair) and has HTC Sense. My husband’s only complaint is that the battery does seem to drain pretty quickly, so if you forget to charge one night you could be without a phone the next morning. This does seem to be a fairly common issue with all smartphones, so as long as you have an in car charger you should be fine.

If you want to read more about the wildfire, then head over to amazon here.

The scoop on the HTC explorer ♥ the leaked specs!

Today the specs of the new HTC explorer were accidentally leaked by website pocketnow. The details of the spiritual successor to the hugely popular wildfire S was accidentally published today before being removed. There isn’t a huge amount of information out there about HTC’s new offering but we do know that they have a major announcement due on the 6th of October. Formerly known as the HTC pico due to its size, the rebranded HTC explorer looks just like the wildfire S that is available today.

Marketed as a more budget conscious android phone, the explorer is the first android smartphone that HTC have produced that firmly occupies the lower end of the smartphone market. By no means does it’s lower price mean that the quality of the phone is lower.

From the leaked specs that appeared online today we can gather that the explorer will come with the very latest version of HTC Sense (version 3.5), a 5 megapixel camera, 600mhz processor and 3.2 inch HVGA screen. The only downside seems to be the amount of Ram the phone has, coming in at only 384 MB. Although small in comparison to the multitude of smartphones that are out there now, the issue can easily be solved by the android marketplace. Regardless of how much RAM the phone has, a quick trip to the marketplace to get an online music service such as  spotify or Rdio and you will have more songs to play than you can shake a stick at!

The only other thing of note is that from the pictures, the HTC explorer looks sturdy. I don’t know about you but I’m pretty clumsy. I need a phone that can take a licking and is still alive and kicking! Only time will tell with the launch but it looks like one of those phones that is virtually indestructible, ideal for my use…
